Love my internship--good people, interesting work (once I did a day or so of filing) AND two Smithies work there. I'm in the middle of reading government reports about Katrina to compile the big ten of contracting mistakes. The GAO should plaigarize more from other reports, if only for some more variety. Or they could just add another page of citations.
I've decided that reading too much of the Washington Post blows. There's something about the tone of it that really puts me off, I think it's too elitist and arrogant, even for me. Specifically, I was pissed off after reading an article about Hillary in 2008 (tangent anger - I hate when opposition to a Hillary run is construed as opposition to a woman running--Hillary is not Whitney Houston, she is not every woman, it's not all in her and anything you want done, baby, she'll get back to you). Two lines that especially pissed me off:
Some folks in America still aren't sure a woman should be president, or even express political opinions when men are present. There are places in this country that are still adjusting to women's suffrage...
Ok, sure, there are places, but it's not the real issue here, especially the whole women expressing political opinions when men are present and the suffrage bit. Mostly it's the tone that pisses me off, that if your'e not in D.C. you're so provinicial. Plus all of this crap in this article in the tone brings back the same old boys' line, "It's not that I'M opposed to women in politics, it's the other guys, and they just won't listen to reason," the boys say. "Some of my best friends are women!"
I like that Michael J. Fox said his least favorite word is "bitch" on The Actors Studio. But then again, he's from Canada, which is obviously even worse than Ohio or Michigan. I'm sure he's real offended when women talk about power and lobbying.
